Do you want to build the ML models that power every compliance verdict customers and auditors rely on? We are building a new Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) service at AWS where every action — human or agent — is recorded, assessed, and provably governed, continuously and at any scale. As an Applied Scientist on this team, you will own the Natural Language Inference (NLI) model at the center of our compliance engine: fine-tuning, calibrating, and monitoring it in production. You will also design the science behind framework decomposition, evidence auto-linking, and a new agent-context system that tackles retrieval, grounding, and hallucination measurement for AI agents. Your work will directly shape the accuracy and trustworthiness of every customer-visible result we produce. Key job responsibilities - Own the production NLI model end-to-end: fine-tune, promote, calibrate thresholds, and monitor for drift to ensure accurate compliance verdicts across frameworks. - Design and implement framework decomposition pipelines that translate compliance controls into NLI hypotheses, including enrichment and per-framework threshold calibration. - Build and improve the evidence auto-linking system using ranking, embedding, and reranking techniques, tuning precision-recall tradeoffs and addressing OCR quality challenges. - Drive the quality flywheel by establishing labeling standards, designing offline and online evaluation methods, orchestrating retraining cycles, and ensuring privacy-safe data handling. - Research and develop the agent-context capability — retrieval and representation of lifecycle signals, cross-framework knowledge, memory, grounding, and hallucination measurement — collaborating with engineering pods to bring these models into production. A day in the life You will split your time between collaborative and heads-down work. On the collaborative side, you will partner with several pods of software development engineers in an Agile cadence — aligning on data collection needs, sharing experiment results, and integrating models into production services. On the heads-down side, you will dig into model training runs, analyze evaluation metrics, and iterate on threshold tuning until the numbers meet the bar. Your work is roadmap-driven, giving you the space to plan experiments methodically while still responding to new framework onboarding requests as they arise. About the team Our team builds the AI and ML systems behind AWS Governance, Risk, & Compliance service, where science is not auxiliary — it is the core. Every customer-visible compliance result flows through models our scientists create and maintain. We are investing in next-generation capabilities including observability and governance for AI agents, and the multi-quarter Agent Context initiative is an organization-defining program that will need technical leaders. Growth here is tangible. You will own the full model lifecycle from training through production monitoring, develop rare expertise at the intersection of ML and compliance, and have a clear path to expand your scope into technical leadership as the service scales.

Amazon Prime is looking for an ambitious Economist to help create econometric insights for world-wide Prime. Prime is Amazon's premiere membership program, with over 200M members world-wide. This role is at the center of many major company decisions that impact Amazon's customers. These decisions span a variety of industries, each reflecting the diversity of Prime benefits. These range from fast-free e-commerce shipping, digital content (e.g., exclusive streaming video, music, gaming, photos), reading, healthcare, and grocery offerings. Prime Science creates insights that power these decisions. As an economist in this role, you will create statistical tools that embed causal interpretations. You will utilize massive data, state-of-the-art scientific computing, econometrics (causal, counterfactual/structural, experimentation), and machine-learning, to do so. Some of the science you create will be publishable in internal or external scientific journals and conferences. You will work closely with a team of economists, applied scientists, data professionals (business analysts, business intelligence engineers), product managers, and software/data engineers. You will create insights from descriptive statistics, as well as from novel statistical and econometric models. You will create internal-to-Amazon-facing automated scientific data products to power company decisions. You will write strategic documents explaining how senior company leaders should utilize these insights to create sustainable value for customers. These leaders will often include the senior-most leaders at Amazon. The team is unique in its exposure to company-wide strategies as well as senior leadership. It operates at the research frontier of utilizing data, econometrics, artificial intelligence, and machine-learning to form business strategies. A successful candidate will have demonstrated a capacity for building, estimating, and defending statistical models (e.g., causal, counterfactual, machine-learning) using software such as R, Python, or STATA. They will have a willingness to learn and apply a broad set of statistical and computational techniques to supplement deep training in one area of econometrics. For example, many applications on the team motivate the use of structural econometrics and machine-learning. They rely on building scalable production software, which involves a broad set of world-class software-building skills often learned on-the-job. As a consequence, already-obtained knowledge of SQL, machine learning, and large-scale scientific computing using distributed computing infrastructures such as Spark-Scala or PySpark would be a plus. Additionally, this candidate will show a track-record of delivering projects well and on-time, preferably in collaboration with other team members (e.g. co-authors). Candidates must have very strong writing and emotional intelligence skills (for collaborative teamwork, often with colleagues in different functional roles), a growth mindset, and a capacity for dealing with a high-level of ambiguity. Endowed with these traits and on-the-job-growth, the role will provide the opportunity to have a large strategic, world-wide impact on the customer experiences of Prime members. About the team The Prime Economics organization is a cross-functional group of scientists (economists, research scientists, applied scientists), business intelligence engineers, software engineers and product managers embedded within Prime.

The FAIM (Full Funnel Agentic Intelligence and Models) builds the agentic AI systems behind next-generation advertising. The team develops multimodal foundation models and LLM-driven agents that power shopper understanding, audience-aware creative generation, and agentic advertising workflows. As a Principal Applied Scientist for the FAIM team, you will invent the models that help advertisers achieve desired outcomes. Today's state of the art models can setup ad campaigns to a specification, but do not understand advertising strategy well enough to help with abstract goals that real advertisers ask about like "how can I make more money."
