Arlington and Herndon
Research at Amazon’s HQ2 in Arlington, which began construction in early 2020, reaches across several Amazon products and services. Teams at this location and in nearby Herndon, Virginia, are pioneering and growing the science community here, with opportunities to collaborate closely with other scientists in designing and implementing research that has a significant impact on both internal and external Amazon customers.
Research in Arlington spans a variety of disciplines, including data science, data security, deep learning, economics, econometrics, applied microeconomics, statistics, forecasting, operational research, optimization problems, and machine learning, among others.
Working in Arlington and Herndon
Amazon provides scientists room to take risks and fail; a community for collaboration and support for continued learning; and the opportunity to have an impact at global scale. Scientists are encouraged to engage with the research community in many forms, from attending conferences and writing research papers, to contributing to open-source code, and public datasets.
Amazon’s Arlington campus includes direct access to public transportation; bike-friendly access; sustainable, LEED Platinum-certified buildings; and 1.1 acres of new public open space designed for a variety of uses, including a dog park, recreation areas, farmers markets, and more. Arlington is just minutes away from downtown Washington, D.C.
Herndon is located in western Fairfax County, Virginia, near Washington, D.C. and Amazon’s HQ2 in Arlington. The closest town to the National Air and Space Museum’s Stephen F. Udvar-Hazy Center, Herndon boasts more than 100 restaurants as well as recreational activities including parks, hiking trails, golf, and a variety of free concerts and special events on Herndon’s Town Green.
