Scientists in Sydney are focused on cutting-edge machine learning and data problems related to Amazon’s businesses. Much of the work here helps Amazon Web Services customers accelerate the use of machine learning to solve business and operational challenges and promote innovation in their organizations.
Teams are also developing state-of-the-art large-scale machine learning methods and applications involving terabytes of data. They work on applying machine learning, particularly computer vision techniques, to a wide spectrum of areas, such as Amazon retail, seller services, and online video.
Scientists in Sydney are researching data science, machine learning, automated reasoning, and computer vision, among other disciplines.
Working in Sydney
Amazon provides scientists room to take risks and fail; a community for collaboration and support for continued learning; and the opportunity to have an impact at global scale. Scientists are encouraged to engage with the research community in many forms, from attending conferences and writing research papers, to contributing to open-source code, and public datasets.
The largest city in Australia, Sydney is located on the southeast coast of the country. The mild coastal climate allows for year-round outdoor activity at the 70 nearby beaches, the Blue Mountains and the Hawkesbury River, or in one of Sydney’s many parks and open spaces. As a major metropolis, Sydney also boasts a vibrant and active cultural scene that includes film/television, live performance, night clubs, museums, and sporting events.
Our Sydney scientists collaborate with universities and other institutions around the globe. To see a summary of some of Amazon’s scientific collaborations, visit our academic collaborations page.
